Carpet mold removal in Falls Church is mostly about the pad, which stays wet for days after the surface feels dry. On 19 July 2025, up to 3.5 inches of rain fell on Great Falls in a single storm; if a carpet took water that day or in any storm since, lift a corner near where the water came in and feel the pad.

What we find under that corner decides whether the carpet stays, the pad goes or both come out, and the estimate says which before treatment day. The rest of our process is on the mold remediation page.

Lift a corner near the water.

Pick a corner close to where the water came in, pull the carpet off the tack strip and fold it back. Look at the pad, the carpet backing and the floor. Dark spotting on any of them, or a pad that is still damp days after the water stopped, means the problem is underneath.

Wear gloves, and take photos of the pad and the floor before you lay the carpet back down. The pictures make the first call much more useful.

Judge the pad and the carpet separately.

The pad is the sponge. It holds water longest and is the part most often thrown out. The carpet itself can sometimes stay when its backing dried quickly and shows no growth.

How long the water sat matters more than how much came in. A carpet soaked by a burst hose and dried within a day or two is a different job from one that stayed wet under a sofa for a week.

Find out what's under the pad.

The floor beneath depends on the house. Across Montgomery County the range runs from Chevy Chase Village, where the median home was built in 1938 and 64.9 percent went up before 1940, to Potomac, where the median is 1977 (Census Bureau, 2020 to 2024). That can mean wood plank, plywood or a concrete slab under the carpet, and each holds water differently, so we map moisture in the floor as well as the pad.

Concrete gives up water slowly, so a pad on a slab tends to stay damp longer than one over wood. Old wood plank can swell and cup where the water sat, which shows once the pad is lifted.

Clear what sits on carpet that's leaving.

Furniture standing on carpet that is coming out has to move off it before treatment day. The estimate lists which rooms of carpet and pad come out, so you can plan where things go.

What treatment day looks like.

The water source has to be fixed first, by you or the right trade, because mold comes back wherever moisture keeps arriving. On treatment day the home is empty: people, pets and plants leave, and furniture and electronics generally stay where they are.

The VaPURE sterilant goes in as a vapor and reaches surfaces, wall cavities, HVAC ducting, porous materials and the air. An antimicrobial protectant stage follows, which helps resist new growth once the moisture cause is fixed. Most homes are treated in a single day, and families are back the same evening.

Most homes need no demolition. When a material is too far gone, we say so in the estimate and it comes out. Afterward, air samples go to the same accredited third-party lab, which has no affiliation with EnviroPure.

Frequently Asked

Common questions.

That turns on how long it stayed wet and what the backing and the floor look like. Sometimes the carpet stays and only the pad goes, and we tell you which before we quote.

The source may be in the subfloor, a wall or somewhere else in the room. When nothing is visible, air quality testing with a third-party lab report shows whether indoor spore levels sit above the outdoor air.

Stop the water and start drying right away; fans and a dehumidifier both help. Call us and we'll talk through next steps and the earliest visit we can offer.

An area rug can be lifted, so check its back and the floor under it. If either shows growth, the rug and the floor beneath are part of the job; a rug that stayed dry can simply be moved off before treatment day.
