Frequently Asked

Questions about mold remediation.

Mold is a fungus that feeds on organic material such as wood, drywall, insulation and fabric, and it breaks that material down as it grows. As it spreads, it releases spores into the air. They settle wherever there's a food source and enough moisture, and the cycle starts again.

The time varies based on size and scope. Typical home treatments can be completed in 4 to 6 hours.

The cost depends on your home and on what caused the mold, so we give you an estimate after the free visual inspection. Because most homes need no demolition, VaPURE™ treatment often costs less than traditional mold remediation.

Plan to be out of the property, with pets, for the treatment window. A few days before your appointment we'll send preparation instructions, such as opening interior closets and doors and closing exterior windows so the vapor can reach every room.

No. Leave your belongings in place, because mold spores settle into fabric, furniture and mattresses and they get treated along with the room. Tell your technician about any brass fixtures so they can work around them. Framed art and electronics don't need to come down, though some customers prefer to cover expensive pieces.

Store fresh produce in the refrigerator or a sealed container before treatment so its taste isn't affected.

Pets and people need to be out of the building during treatment.

You're back home the same day. Most homes take 3 to 4 hours, depending on size and whether windows can be opened afterward. You may notice a faint vinegar-like scent when you return, and it fades on its own within a few hours.

You should not see any residue once the treatment is complete, and you don't need to wipe anything down afterward.

The VaPURE™ vapor particle is roughly 7.5 microns, smaller than a typical mold spore (12 to 30 microns), so it moves with the air into wall cavities, ductwork and porous materials. When there's a known problem behind a wall, a technician can make a few small access holes between studs to treat that area directly.

Existing stains don't disappear on their own. The treatment deals with the mold, and any marks it left behind are cosmetic. We can quote cleaning the stains as an add-on, or you can clean them yourself afterward. Once treatment is complete, there's nothing you need to avoid touching.

A technician collects an air or surface tape sample and sends it to an independent, accredited third-party lab with no affiliation to EnviroPure. Results for both air and tape tests typically come back in 2 to 3 business days, and we're happy to walk you through what they mean by phone.

People and pets need to be out of the property during the treatment itself, and everyone can come back the same day. The active component of the sterilant is on the EPA's Safer Chemical Ingredients List. Shortly after application it breaks down into acetic acid (the acid in white vinegar), oxygen and water.

The sterilant isn't registered with the EPA as a pesticide, so we make no pest-control claims for it. If pests are your main concern, call a licensed pest control company.

The antimicrobial protectant applied in the final step helps resist mold regrowth once a moisture problem has been fixed. If the moisture is still there, from a slow leak, high humidity or condensation, expect roughly 90 days of protection rather than a lasting fix. Fixing the moisture source is what makes the result hold.
