Why EnviroPure Mold Services

Homeowners call us when the smell keeps returning.

A musty smell gets the same VaPURE™ process, lab check and scheduling as the rest of our mold work.

Back the same evening

Most homes are treated in one day. People, pets and plants stay out while the VaPURE™ treatment runs, and you're usually home that evening. Furniture and electronics generally stay where they are.

Vapor reaches hidden spaces

The vapor moves the way air does, into wall cavities, through the HVAC system and into porous materials such as carpet pad and insulation.

Studied by the Army Corps

The VaPURE™ process was studied by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the papers are on our science page.

Mold is all we do

EnviroPure Mold Services works from Falls Church, VA 22043, in Fairfax County. Mold is the whole business, so we treat a musty smell as a sign of growth until the readings say otherwise.

Source-Level Treatment

We look for the mold behind the smell.

Musty smells usually come from mold growing where nobody looks: under a carpet pad, behind drywall on an outside wall, in a closet against a cold wall, in a damp crawl space or inside the ductwork. Homes around here vary a lot, too. Great Falls is almost entirely detached houses (99.3 percent), while more than a third of homes in Oakton are in multi-unit buildings (36.9 percent), Census estimates show, so we check beyond the room where you notice the smell. Air fresheners cover it for a while, and it comes back while the growth is still there. Musty odor jobs follow the same VaPURE™ process as our mold remediation work.

  • Vapor reaches wall cavities, the HVAC system and porous materials
  • The house is empty during treatment, and you're usually back that evening
  • Most homes are treated in a single day
  • Air samples afterward go to an independent, accredited lab
The Odor Removal Process

A musty odor job runs in four steps.

Inspect, treat, inhibit regrowth, and prove the result with an independent lab.

01  Stage One

We find the source first

A musty smell is often the first sign of mold you can't see, so the visit is about finding where it grows. We walk the property with you and take moisture readings in walls, floors and ceilings, because the growth usually sits near the damp.

This is also when we decide what can't be treated. A material that is too far gone, such as a carpet pad that stayed wet for weeks, comes out, and the written estimate tells you so before any work starts.

  • Property walk-through with you
  • Moisture mapping for hidden water damage
  • A look at the HVAC system and ducts

02  Stage Two

We treat the source with VaPURE™ vapor

Everyone leaves for the treatment, pets and plants included. The VaPURE™ sterilant then moves through the house the way air does, into wall cavities, the HVAC system and porous materials such as carpet and its pad, and treats the air along with the surfaces.

Most homes need no demolition, and most are treated in one day, so you're usually back the same evening.

  • Vapor reaches cavities, ducts and porous materials
  • House empty during treatment, back the same evening
  • Removal only where a material is too far gone

03  Stage Three

A protectant stage helps resist regrowth

After the vapor, an antimicrobial protectant stage follows. It helps treated surfaces resist new growth once the moisture cause is fixed, which is why the source we found in stage one goes on your repair list.

If the smell came from a leak, a damp crawl space or a bathroom fan that vents into the attic, that repair is what keeps the smell from coming back.

  • Helps resist new growth once the moisture is fixed
  • Repair list from the inspection

04  Stage Four

A lab checks the air afterward

After treatment, air samples go to an accredited lab with no ties to EnviroPure, and the report usually arrives within 2 to 3 business days. It gives the spore count per cubic meter and the types of mold found, set beside outdoor and baseline samples.

The report is written in plain language and the copy is yours. If a room still needs attention, it shows up by name.

  • Independent, accredited lab
  • Results usually in 2 to 3 business days
  • A written, plain-language report
